Excess atmospheric CO₂ should be seen as an extraordinarily valuable natural resource that is simply out of place.

Win/Win C0₂ Solutions Alliance advocates for adopting the many proven ecosolutions that can put enough of this valuable resource back where belongs–securely sequestered through plant photosynthesis in soils and natural systems. Doing this would buy the time to develop the best long-term global solutions to climate issues.

It is universally recognized that this “terrestrial sink” already sequesters about a quarter of annual global CO₂ emissions.  But developments in recent years demonstrate conclusively that by applying a variety of proven management techniques we can vastly increase the sequestration capacity of the terrestrial sink. We now know how to remove far more CO₂ much more quickly and cheaply than could be done by any of the other alternatives under consideration.  Among these co-benefits: restoring ecosystem health and integrity, increasing drought resistance for crops and natural systems, restoring biodiversity, improving fish and wildlife habitat, ensuring critical food security while also enhancing nutritional quality and improving producer profitability, and restoring watersheds, thereby improving both water quality and quantity and reducing flood danger.

Applying this approach on a global scale would give us 50 to 75 years (and perhaps longer) during which to resolve climate issues in a more measured, thoughtful, integrated, sustainable, equitable, responsible and cost-effective way than is possible today.
